still green

by Jinryu

Yesterday night, I took the exam for 3rd kyo (green belt) in judo.  I got it (passed, and was upgraded from orange to green), but I was a bit disappointed with how I did.  I’ll skip the excuses, and get to the good ideas of what I need to work on in the future.

  • My sweeping techniques are very much lack-luster.  These need lots of work in general.
  • I don’t have many combination attacks– probably because my sweeps aren’t that great.
  • I rely almost exclusively on one type of counter– from the back attacks like tani otoshi and ura nage. I have no sweep defenses that lead to countering opportunities.
